What are the favourite stopovers en-route from Calais to Peisey ?
We have not driven in snow. Are the roads always clear ?
The road clearing is both frequent and efficient. Approach roads are cleared immediately but there is always a chance that heavy snow may require chains on arrival day.
Will we need snow chains ?
French advice is not to travel without them, always ask for them to be supplied at the airport by your car hire company. Our personal advice if you have your own car is that they are only really worth buying once you are here and are sure to need them. They are very expensive in the UK and are available much cheaper EVERYWHERE in France both roadside and in supermarkets. Don't buy something you have only a 5% chance of needing.
Is free parking available and is it safe ?
There is ample local parking in the village close to the chalet. All parking is free for the duration of your stay. Parking at the apartments is within 50m
Are the chalet and apartments ski in/ski out ?
No, chalet Himalaya is not sold as ski in/ski out, however when conditions are favourable accomplished skiers easily ski back to the chalet using an off-piste track. All our apartments are genuine ski in ski out situated on the piste in Vallandry
How close are you to the nearest lifts.
The local Peisey village lift is 250m away from Himalaya and our apartments are 100m from the Vallandry lift.
How far away is the après ski ?
Local bars are 800m away with a slightly more lively nightlife scene a short taxi trip (10€ return) away in Vallandry at the foot of the pistes, but if you are looking for thumping nightclubs, Go-Alpine is not for you.
Are the runs to/from the village easy enough for children ?
Yes, the runs back in to resort and the ski school cater even for beginners.
Is there a ski school in the village ?
Yes, we use the ESF ski school, which is conveniently situated at top of the lift out of the village as you arrive at the snow front.
When is our first meal on arrival day ?
On arrival day the first meal that we guarantee is afternoon tea, available from 16:00 onwards although those arriving very early on the snowtrain are always offered breakfast.
Do you accept special requests ?
Yes, we make every effort to satisfy guest’s individual requirements, however special requests are not guaranteed and must be arranged in advance directly with either Mark or Cathy.
Do you offer a lift pass service and are there any discounts ?
Yes, we have your pass ready for your arrival (so no queuing) and we can GUARANTEE our guests cannot get the same pass cheaper anywhere else in resort (even direct).
How much does 6 days ski/snowboard hire cost and are there discounted rates for Go-Alpine guests ?
Ski, boot & board hire varies with the category of equipment but 6 days hire for an adult costs approx 95 euros or 79 GBP and 65 euros 54 GBP for a child. Discounts depend on the time of year with less discount for peak weeks. We will be happy to print you a voucher for hire equipment at up to 40% off that will be honoured by the shop and the 7th day of any hire is FREE.
What is the approximate cost of ski/boarding lessons ?
Prices are the same for adult or child lessons. 6 x mornings group tuition = 175 euros (approx 150 GBP), A private lesson for 2 hours for up to 5 persons costs 104 euros (approx 89 GBP) for the instructor (not per person)
Do you cater for children at any time of year, or are there restrictions ?
We cater for children all year round but outside the peak weeks (such as X-mas, New Year, Half Term and Easter) children under 10 years are usually only accepted in groups taking the exclusive use of the chalet. Please ask if your week is affected
Is the resort well geared up for babies ?
The ski area is not particularly suitable for very young children under 2 years due to the lack of convenient crèche facilities for infants under 18 months old at certain times of the year.
Do you offer an early evening meal (high-tea) for children ?
Yes, we generally serve early kids meals at 18:30.
Do Go-Alpine staff live in or out of the chalets ?
All staff live out in their our own separate apartment nearby, however Cathy and I live in our own separate apartment in the same building as chalet Himalaya.
Can you cope with vegetarians and also non-fish/seafood eaters ?
Yes, no problem we stake our reputation on luxury accommodation and first-rate cuisine tailored to your needs.
What meals are included when it says “fully catered” ?
All the cooking is done for you. Breakfast includes a hot option, fruit juices, muesli & cereals, fresh French bread, hot croissants, tea, chocolate or fresh filter coffee, conserves, yogurts, and a fruit bowl. A freshly baked cake is left out for afternoon tea. In the evening we serve a 4-course meal including starter, main course and dessert, with a local cheese board and coffee (accompanied by quality French bottled wines).
What happens on your day off ?
On the staff day off, breakfast is laid out the night before, afternoon tea is left in the kitchen for you & rooms are not serviced. We book you a table at a local village restaurant for your evening meal.
Can we cook at the chalet on staff day off ?
On the staff day off guests dine out in a local restaurant at their own expense. For insurance and health/hygiene reasons, under NO CIRCUMSTANCES are guests permitted to cook or use the kitchen to provide meals for themselves. THIS IS NON-NEGOTIABLE.
Are the rooms serviced daily ?
Yes, we service the rooms every day except on staff day off.
Are towels provided and are they changed ?
Yes, we provide all towels and there is a towel change midweek.
Do any rooms have a bath ?
Room 6 in Himalaya has a bath and shower. All our self-catered apartments have both a bath and a shower.
What time do we check out of our rooms on departure day ?
Guests are asked to vacate their rooms by 09:00 (am).
